The impact of rainforests

Kelsey Paulling, Biologist

Living near a rainforest may be a rare privilege, as they cover only 3% of the world's land area. However, even if you reside far from a tropical rainforest, their invaluable benefits extend to all corners of the globe.

In our enlightening December session, we had the pleasure of hosting Kelsey, a rainforest specialist from the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. She delved into the essence of rainforests, their significance, and shared valuable insights on how we can contribute to their protection.

Whether you're a rainforest dweller or not, join us as we uncover the wonders of these extraordinary ecosystems and explore the ways we can safeguard their future.

Regrettably, deforestation and climate change pose grave threats to the delicate balance of wildlife in our rainforests. Species like the magnificent golden frogs face the risk of extinction. However, it is crucial that we intervene before it's too late, striving to revive these extraordinary creatures without disrupting nature's delicate equilibrium.

In this crucial endeavor, Kelsey plays a vital role. Her responsibility is to carefully breed and protect endangered animals, ensuring they have a secure environment where they can thrive. Once ready, these animals are transported to suitable habitats, where they can reclaim their rightful place in the natural world. Together, we can work towards preserving the incredible diversity of life found within our rainforests.

During her insightful session, Kelsey provided numerous actionable steps that individuals, including children, can take to make a positive impact on our environment. She emphasized the power of spreading awareness about environmental importance and encouraged practices such as the three R's: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Additionally, she highlighted the significance of making conscious choices, such as supporting local produce and opting for responsible products. Together, we can contribute to a sustainable future through small yet meaningful actions.
