NASA and the Solar System

Kevin James

Research Engineer, NASA

Do you know baby formula is an example of what NASA has invented? NASA’s role is to work on science and technology around air and space, but what they have invented has influenced a lot of things in our everyday lives.

Our June and July Special Guest, Kevin James, was much into experiments as a child. His dad was a Physics professor in Iowa and he let Kevin try things out freely. Of course, there were dangerous experiments Kevin dared to try but he turned out to be great in math and sciences.

Kevin did an amazing job over two camps speaking about what NASA’s job is and the Sun and its planets. He went through every planet, telling us how big they are relative to Earth, and how long one day is, etc. Along with this, he talked about if humans would be able to take step on any of the planets in relation to how hot each of them gets. While sharing these fascinating facts about the sun and its planets, he allowed the kids to take guesses to his questions. Our kids had so much fun guessing some answers and asking what they were curious about.

Have you ever had such an exciting discussion with an engineer from NASA? Maybe…if we all had had the chance to speak to such an expert in a friendly and interactive environment when we were kids, we might have become astronauts or rocket scientists by now ;)

“Our mission at TaleTree is to empower kids to build confidence, and social and emotional skills through sharing their creative nature and kindness with other kids from around the world ”
